Respect for Saint Ex

This is a post for the locals.

Apparently Cafe Saint Ex has decided that someone must take a stand against the collar-popping epidemic that is sweeping the nation's capital.

DCist captured this message written on the chalkboard outside of the local watering hole last Friday.

And my opinion of this honorable establishment just climbed another notch.

I'm hoping next week they make sneakers mandatory to help trim down the prepster quotient a little further. And then maybe we can think about doing somehting about those striped shirts.

  • I have no respect for that point of view. What is your problem with fools popping their collars? A guy pops his collar, a guy doesn't pop his collar. Admittedly, if you want to look different, nowadays I think you'd want to go collar down. But that's the province of the individual to decide. I just see some shit like that at St. Ex and it makes me wince -- once an undiscerning dive where anybody who enjoyed slamming music, dark rooms, and cheap beer could mingle, now making snotty comments on the dressing habits of people who either don't know any better or don't care. Might as well be a spot that only lets you in if you wear sneakers and a cool T-shirt, or only lets you in if you are wearing smart shoes and something by one of the Antwerp 6. And you end up with a row of robots who all look alike. The mix of divergent fools is most important; stupid rules like that signify the death of something special.
In short, style is personal; if you're lucky to have it, rejoice and understand that you can't teach others; look out for No. 1; let the trend die naturally.
