DC Shopping
Home accessory guru Design Sponge recently asked for recommendations for local design stores, and I took the opportunity to give shout outs to some of my favorite local DC stores.Three of the best home accessory and gift stores are located right around the corner from me in the U St corridor, and they are all right next door to each other. My girlfriend and I rely on these three for gifts for any friend and family member - so if you know me, there is a good chance I've either already given you something from Go Mama Go, Pulp, or Home Rule - or will do in the future.
Go Mama Go is a great home accessories and dinnerware store owned by Noi Chudnoff, a lovely woman that personally travels the globe selecting pieces to sell in her store. They have a fantastic selection of tea sets, and Noi is usually in the store to help you pick something perfect for your friend or relative.
Home Rule is a kitchen wares and home accessories store that not only has great products, but features the best window displays in all of DC. Basic items can be a little pricey, but they have some wonderful, quality brands and items.
Pulp does not have a website, but is by far the best card shop in DC. It also features a fantastic selection of novelty gifts, and though it caters somewhat to the local gay population, there is something for everyone in there. Don't forget to check out the upstairs section for some great photography books. All three of these are located on 14th St NW between S and T.
Another gem is Good Eye - although I must admit I generally peruse their inventory online rather than going to the store because their website does a great job of showing off their pieces and most of their items sell extremely quickly. Their furniture ranges from fun to funky - and has a great retro aesthetic. The store is also a leader in vintage Tiki design products - perfect for your home bar.
So if you are passing through the Nation's capital, stop by some of these great stores and see why some of the best stores in DC exist outside of Georgetown.
