Debate Club

Apparently the Industrial Design Society of America hosts regular events called Fight Club in which two experts debate the pro and con of a controversial issue in contemporary society.

Past fights have included topics such as "humans by design" and legalization of marijuana. Up next is a verbal slugfest about
gentrification.

The site is somewhat cryptic about what actually goes down at the events, but it seems like two people participate in a heated debate while onlookers listen/heckle/cheer in a small, dark club. Not only is it an interesting concept, but I like how it takes intellectual discussions out of the comfortable realms of college panel discussions and PBS news programs and makes them aggressively entertaining while still intellectual (unlike say anything on certain cable news stations).

Plus their website offers a lot of resources on both sides of the issues so you can investigate your position further and be ready to back it up.

After all, "How much can you know about yourself if you've never been in a fight?"
